What is this platform and who is it for?

ProseMaker is an AI-powered writing platform specifically designed for authors, novelists, and storytellers. Whether you're a beginner writing your first book or a professional author working on your next manuscript, our tools help you organize, brainstorm, and write more effectively. The platform combines smart organization features with flexible AI assistance to support your entire creative process.

What types of writing projects can I create?

ProseMaker is built for any type of long-form content creation. Whether you're writing novels, screenplays, academic papers, research articles, memoirs or business books, our tools help you organize and write more effectively. The platform adapts to your needs whether you're crafting fiction, non-fiction, or academic work.

What languages does ProseMaker support?

The interface is currently only available in English but at the moment the AI writing companion supports the following languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Keep in mind that not every language model is proficient in all every language. It's up to you to pick one that works well.

How does the Smart Glossary work?

You build your glossary by adding terms across various categories like characters, locations, items, research articles and more. Each entry can contain detailed information about that element of your work. As you write with the AI assistant, the platform automatically provides relevant glossary terms as context, so the AI always has the background knowledge it needs to write consistently and accurately. Please refer to our documentation for more details.

What are instruction blocks and how do I use them?

These are special blocks you embed in your text content to tell the AI exactly what to write next. How you use them depends entirely on your writing style and needs. Some writers prefer detailed instructions, others keep them brief. Each block can generate up to 5,000 words, and as a rule of thumb, longer requests need more detailed instructions to keep the AI focused and on track with your creative direction. You can find more information in our documentation.

Do I need coding or technical knowledge to use the platform?

No, you don't need any coding or technical knowledge to get started. We've designed the platform to be as intuitive and user-friendly as possible, so you can begin writing immediately. However, to unlock advanced features and make the most of our tools, some learning is beneficial. Specifically, if you want to customize prompts for advanced workflows, understanding Liquid templating language is helpful, though not mandatory. Keep an eye on our documentation pages and blog where we will provide guidance for improving your experience.

Which AI providers are supported?

ProseMaker currently supports OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, Mistral and Together AI. We recommend OpenRouter because it gives you access to a wide variety of language models from multiple sources in one place. For image generation, Together AI is currently the only option but we want to change that in the coming months. You can connect any of these services using your own API keys and switch between them based on your needs.

Can I switch between different AI models during a project?

Yes, you can switch between different AI models at any time during your project. Every time you make a request to the AI assistant, you can choose which model to use. The platform remembers your last selection for each prompt category separately, so you can have different default models for different types of tasks: one for writing, another for brainstorming, and so on.

How can export my content?

We’re actively working on a dedicated export feature and it’s a top priority! For now, you can manually export your content by using the "Copy text" button found in the menu next to chapter title in the editor to copy each chapter and pasting it into tools like Microsoft Word or Google Docs. We’ll announce the new export functionality as soon as it’s ready.

Is the platform really free during beta?

Yes, the platform is completely free during the beta phase. You can use all features without any cost, and no payment method is required to sign up or use the platform. However, keep in mind that AI providers may charge for using their models through your API keys, unless you choose providers offering limited free models. Once the beta ends, you'll still be able to export all your content, but a subscription will be required to continue creating new projects or continue writing.

Is my content secure and private?

Security and privacy are fundamental to our platform. We follow current security standards to protect all user data. Your content is yours alone and will never be published or shared externally. If content is used at all, it's strictly for internal platform improvements and never leaves our team or becomes accessible to anyone else.

Who owns the content I create on the platform?

Your creativity is yours to keep! Everything you write or generate on our platform stays under your ownership, giving you full control over how it’s used. Just remember to double-check the guidelines of the AI providers you’re using, as their output might have specific usage rules. And of course, always ensure your content respects copyright and originality.

Will my beta account and projects carry over after the beta ends?

Absolutely! Your beta account and all your projects will seamlessly carry over after the beta period ends. You will still access everything with the same login credentials and there is no need to start from scratch. To keep using all the platform’s features, you’ll just need to choose a subscription plan that fits your needs. We’ll make sure the transition is smooth so you can focus on what matters most: your writing!

What does "bring your own API keys" mean?

"Bring your own API keys" means our platform doesn’t host its own AI models. Instead, you connect to external AI providers (like OpenRouter, OpenAI, etc.) by adding their API keys to our tools. These keys act like a secure bridge, allowing our platform to communicate with their models. For help getting an API key and establishing a connection, check our documentation as well as the one provided on your chosen provider’s website.

How much do API keys cost?

API keys themselves are usually free to generate, but using them to access AI models (like text generation or editing) may incur costs from the provider. Each provider has its own pricing structure based on usage (e.g. per token or request). Always check their official pricing page for details.
